This 9x20 is part of our ROOT-5 RECTANGLE series. Sierra is our #12 heavy weight cotton duck canvas finished at 14.6 oz., sized and triple primed with archival quality acrylic gesso, producing a ground impervious to paints leaching through and harming the fabric. Suitable for most all paint types, like oils, acrylics, and alkyds. With it's heavier weight, it tends to be stronger and slightly more uniform than other heavy weight canvases in it's class. And it's ideal for heavy paint or impasto. There is a 1/2" gap between the canvas and frame, eliminating the unwanted lines that occur when the gap is less. We never use finger joints in our wood frames, which often fail under tension and over time - the glue joints give up, and are unsuitable for paintings intended to last for centuries. This size has a fixed corner frame. Stretched using our proprietary MuseumWrap method, producing a drum-tight-stretch, up to 50% tighter than other methods, and with balanced tension across the surface. The corners are uncut and neatly folded, making it possible to remove and restretch the canvas on the same size frame.

A sizing is then applied to the canvas that becomes a barrier between the ultimate primer and the canvas material.  The primer is specifically designed to provide the ultimate surface upon which your paints will join with the canvas, either chemically and/or mechanically, providing a reliable base or ground for your art.The canvas is then mounted onto a state-of-the-art 3D Pro 2.5 frame. When frame sizes are 16” or larger, a brace is applied to the frame; for example, a 12x24 has a single brace, and a 24x24 is cross braced in both directions. The braces prevent the stretcher bar frame from bowing-in so the canvas stays tighter….which is a welcome feature when you paint on the canvas, making the surface more responsive to the artist’s touch. And the canvas stays tight after it’s painted.
